Associate Professor Mark Danta is a specialist gastroenterologist and hepatologist with the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney. Mark is also an Associate Professor of Medicine with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales.

Services Associate Professor Danta provides include colonscopy, endoscopy, Fibroscan (non-invasive liver biopsy) and diagnosis and treatment of general gastroenterology, hepatobiliary and liver disorder and diseases. These conditions include: screening and management of gastrointestinal and liver tumours, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and Ulcerative colitis), hepatitis and chronic liver disease and cirrhosis.


A/Prof Danta's further areas of interest are the management of viral hepatitis (hepatitis B & C) and cirrhosis.


He is Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, based at St Vincent's where he teaches medicine. He is also Postgraduate Coordinator for higher degrees on the St Vincent’s campus for the University of New South Wales.


He has a Bachelor of Medicine (University of Newcastle 1992), a Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (University of London 1996), a Masters degree in Public Health (University of Sydney 2002), a Doctorate in Medicine (University of London, 2006) and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (2002).

Associate Professor Danta has carried out extensive research into viral hepatitis, liver disease and the gastrointestinal immune system. His individual and collaborative research has led to a number of significant peer reviewed publications (see research).
